Simply put, University of Maine at Farmington graduates are hired ... and accepted to graduate school. And our grads tend to live — and work — in Maine. Our Education graduates work in schools in every county in Maine. In fact, we turn out the state’s second highest number of teachers — and a whopping 17% of all teachers in Maine earned their bachelor’s degree at UMF.
Our on-campus Center for Human Development will help you along your career path every step of the way, helping you identify career and academic interests; educating you about career, internship, and graduate school options; coaching you through the process of applying for jobs, internships, and graduate school programs, and more. The Center holds workshops on writing effective résumés, applying to graduate school, and searching for employment and internships.
The Center also holds numerous on-campus job fairs, individual recruitment events and Maine’s only all-education career fair.
What some employers have said:
“We like UMF students, and we want to hire more. They’ve been good, stable, and strong teachers, and
I especially appreciate that
they’re grounded and have an excellent work ethic.”
—Joan Shurtleff, Human Resources Recruiter, Fontana (California) Unified School District
"UMF graduates have the qualities we look for in our best Financial Advisors: leadership skills, high integrity, strong
interpersonal skills, effective communications, persistence, resilience, an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong academic background. We view UMF as a valuable resource in our ongoing efforts to hire the best quality candidates for American Express Financial Advisors."
—Sharon Bunker, Recruiting Specialist, American Express Financial Advisors
“We’re very pleased with the UMF students we’ve hired. Our work involves constant training, and UMF students succeed because
they
have excellent communications skills, know how to learn and how to apply what they learn. Once we know an applicant is a UMF graduate, that works in his or her favor."
—Stanley Herrick, District Manager, U.S. Social Security Administration
