Farmington Facts
Strong Academic Reputation
The University of Maine at Farmington has consistently been ranked by U.S.News & World Report in its annual "America's Best Colleges" guide for 11 consecutive years in the Northern Region (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008).
Outstanding Value
Cost is an important factor when choosing a college, no question. But more important than cost is value — what you actually get for your money. At UMF, you receive a high quality "private liberal arts college" education at an affordable state school price.
Comfortable Number of Students
UMF purposely limits its enrollment to just 2,000 students. This ensures you’ll get personal attention, small classes and a great student-to-faculty ratio. You'll get to know everyone here and everyone will know you.
Small, Personal Classes
Our average classroom size is pretty small, about 19 students per classroom, which encourages close student and professor interaction and collaboration.
Men and Women
Our student body is split about 66% women - 34% men.
Snow
Of course. Around here we LIVE for snow. Farmington is in ski country, after all. We're closer to world-class ski areas Sugarloaf/USA, Sunday River and Saddleback Mountain than any college in Maine. If you ride or ski, there's no better place to be.
Wireless Computing
Here, you'll have wireless Internet access from every place on campus: residence hall rooms, classrooms, inside the library, outside the library,
on the campus
green — not just in certain classroom buildings. And to help you get the most from our wireless world, we've got a cost-saving wireless laptop buy-in program.
School Mascot
The Beaver (genus Castor). Yes, the furry, bucktoothed, paddle-tailed rodent is our school mascot and namesake of our athletics teams.
From Maine & Beyond
Although our students come from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Vermont and across the northeast, around 80% are from Maine.
School Colors
Maroon and White. Although UMF is also known for being quite "Green," as in environmentally-friendly.
Campus Vibe
Farmington is a close-knit, laid-back, accepting kind of place. We take our academics — not ourselves — seriously.
Accredited
The University of Maine at Farmington is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Close Student-to-Faculty Ratio
Around 15-to-1. You’ll get to know your profs and they’ll get to know you. (This is a good thing.)
Good Eats
Managed by industry leader ARAMARK, UMF's on-campus dining services is simply outstanding. Special "festive meals," gluten-free and vegan options, home-style classics, made-to-order offerings and different meal plan options are some of the things that set our campus dining experience apart.
More than 80% of UMF students receive some form of financial aid. Last year alone, our students received packages averaging $8,433 in financial assistance. And our Financial Aid Office has been recognized as one of the best in Maine.
