International Exchange Opportunities
Our International Exchange Programs allow you to study abroad for up to a year — at the same tuition rate as attending UMF. (Other expenses, such as airfare, ground transportation, room and board, program fee, etc., may vary depending on the international college.) Whether you want to experience other cultures first-hand, see your own country from a different perspective, test your language skills, or trace your personal history, you’ll return to UMF with a new understanding of your world and yourself. Whatever your motivation, we encourage you to explore the exciting possibilities of international study.
UMaine Farmington offers exciting study-abroad opportunities to more than 50 countries, allowing you to study in places such as Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Kenya, Italy, Jamaica, India, Mexico, Indonesia, Japan, Scotland, Sweden, Austria, South Africa, Israel, Venezuela, England, France, Spain, Greece, Switzerland and more.
In addition, UMF maintains formal exchange programs with the following institutions:
Semester in England This program with Oxford Brookes University, a cosmopolitan campus of approximately 10,000 students in Oxford, England, offers courses in a variety of areas: business, biology, computer science, education, humanities, and more. Oxford, located an hour northwest of London, is a picturesque city of 100,000 and is the home of Oxford University.
Semester in France Hosted by the Universite du Maine in LeMans, a 10,000 student campus located an hour by train from Paris, this program provides an intensive immersion in French language and culture for students with at least one year of French. LeMans is a beautiful city located on the Sarthe River near the Loire Valley. The region has chateaux, picturesque villages, fine cuisine, theater, films, shopping, and more.
Semester in China For students with at least one year of college-level Chinese language, UMF offers an intensive program in Mandarin Chinese and Chinese culture at Beijing Polytechnic University, an 8,000 student university of science, engineering, and management. Beijing, the political, economic, and cultural center of China, is home to more than 10 million people.
Semester in Russia This intensive program in Russian language and culture is open to students with at least one year of college Russian language study. The program is hosted by the Komi State Pedagogical Institute, a university of 3,000 students which has the mission of educating teachers for the elementary and secondary schools of the Republic. Syktyvkar is an industrial city of 250,000, located 800 miles northeast of Moscow.
