Working on Campus
Most University of Maine at Farmington students have jobs on campus or work at businesses in the area. On campus, our student work programs allow you to work in fields related to your major or a personal interest, and can even lead you to a decision on what you’d like to major in or pursue as a career.
Work-Study and Work Initiative Programs
Our two main work programs at UMF are the Federal Work-Study program and our own Student Work Initiative program.
Federal Work-Study is awarded to students based on their FAFSA eligibility.
For those who were not awarded Federal Work-Study but still wish to work on campus, the University's own Work Initiative program also allows students to work in a number of on-campus positions.
Another Work Option
A third option for on campus employment is for students to find a job paid through campus department funds. (Not all departments hire students this way, but some do.)
Typically, the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center and ARAMARK (our campus dining service provider) hire large numbers of students this way. Please note, the UMF Financial Aid Office does not place students into their jobs — this means searching for a job is a competitive process and is something you’ve got to do on your own, just like in the real world.
