Transfer Students
We Welcome You to Join Us
College students from across the nation seek to transfer to the University of Maine at Farmington for a variety of
reasons:
Some want to be closer to home; others want to experience someplace far away and different from what they know. Some want a school where they'll get the close personal attention UMF is famous for, others seek a specific major we offer. And some are looking to advance from a 2-year college to a 4-year institution.
Still other students transfer here for our spectacular mountains and lakes location, some want our strong academic reputation — most want both. And some simply want to go someplace more affordable or are looking for a fresh start at college.
Whatever your reasons for seeking to transfer here, we truly appreciate your interest in us and we look forward to
reviewing your transfer application. If we can help you at any step along the way, please do not hesitate to contact
us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Transferring to UMF
At the University of Maine at Farmington, you're considered a Transfer Student if you have ever enrolled in a
degree program at another college or if you have accumulated 12 college credits or more as a non-degree student.
The minimum cumulative GPA for transfer into most academic programs at UMF is 2.0, except for all Education programs and Rehabilitation Services, which require a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Please note: Some of our majors are in such high demand that openings in those programs fill very quickly (Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Creative Writing, for example). For this reason and more, we strongly encourage you to Apply to UMF as early as possible.
Below are some special instructions for those interested in transferring into our Education programs or into our Creative Writing program.
