At Farmington, Outstanding Quality is Still Affordable
Every student deserves a high quality college education, but at a price they and their families can truly afford.

Families are more aware of the variety of college options and most are re-examining the range of college choices: an in-state school vs. an out-of-state school; a private college vs. a state-assisted college. A large university that is focused on graduate education vs. a small college or university that is focused on the teaching of undergraduates.

Value – Not Low Price Alone – is the Key Factor
Value – what you actually get for your money – is what’s important. And that’s where the Farmington option becomes even more attractive.

Here, you get the same kind of experience typically found at expensive, private liberal arts colleges: Small, intimate classes taught by talented professors whose passion is teaching. A true residential college atmosphere, where students and faculty alike participate in evening poetry readings, concerts and plays. A place where undergraduate research, hands-on learning experiences, honors studies, internship opportunities, and more are available to students in every major.

But because Farmington is a state-supported liberal arts college and is extremely efficient at keeping operating costs down, it is very attractively priced — especially when compared to schools of similar high quality.

You already know Farmington was named one of “America’s Best Colleges” 13 years in a row by U.S.News & World Report. But perhaps more importantly, Farmington was one of just 20 colleges and universities across the nation featured in “Student Success in College: Creating Conditions That Matter,“ which identifies schools that serve as models of educational effectiveness. (This report surveyed Farmington students about their college experiences, what they do in the classroom, outside of the classroom, the relationships they've developed with faculty and more.)

NEW - Farmington in Four
Our new Farmington in Four Guarantee is an innovative commitment to ensure you can complete your Farmington degree in just four years — or required coursework in your fifth year is on us *.

Farmington in Four has been expressly been designed for any first-year student, in any academic program, who wishes to graduate in four years, allowing you to begin to realize your professional dreams a full year or two head of your peers at many other colleges. That's a real competitive advantage for you.

It's also an economic advantage, the rationale being that if you complete your degree in just four years (as opposed to five or six) it will cost you less in the long run, saving on room & board, mandatory fees and more. It may also help you graduate with fewer loans and less debt. And you avoid the opportunity costs (i.e., lost wages and benefits) that come from a delayed entry into the job market.

* The Farmington in Four guarantee covers tuition, mandatory fees, and required books and materials for any coursework required for the completion of your bachelor's degree beyond the fourth year of study.

Now More Than Ever, Farmington is the Smart Choice

A nationally-recognized liberal arts college that's still within their budget.

  • Maine residents just $16,646 per year
  • Non-Maine residents as low as $20,710 ** per year
(That's TOTAL: tuition + mandatory fees + room & board for a full year)

** New England Regional Program: Tuition Discounts for Non-Maine Residents
Through the New England Regional Program, students from other New England states and Canada can apply for certain academic programs at Farmington and pay reduced tuition. The academic programs that qualify for this vary by state.

That's a savings of more than $4,500 per year!

(See the link, New England Regional Program, for details.)

The financial requirements of the University, changing costs, state and legislative action, and other matters may require adjustment of these published charges and expenses. The University reserves the right, up to the date of final registration for a given academic term, to make such adjustments as may be deemed necessary by the University of Maine System Board of Trustees. The applicant acknowledges this reservation by submitting an application for admission or registration. In addition to the above charges, which apply to all students, there is a one-time orientation fee of $230 for entering first-year students and transfers. Remember, when comparing costs at different colleges, be sure you are accounting for all categories of charges. (Not all schools include their mandatory or orientation fees in their published annual costs / expenses.)
