Business Psychology
Bachelor of Arts: Interdisciplinary Studies, concentration in Business Psychology
Business is essentially the creation and sale of goods and services to other people. Psychology is an attempt to understand human behavior. Combine the two and you'll develop a powerful and valuable understanding of what motivates people to buy products and services.
The University of Maine at Farmington's Interdisciplinary Business Psychology program combines the teaching of psychological dynamics and solid business practices, allowing you to become effective and savvy businessperson in today's global market.
Because business today is more international in scope, you'll need to be prepared to interact with people of different cultures and beliefs. With these thoughts in mind we encourage you to also participate in an international exchange program that includes the study of a language other than English. (We will help you with this.)
Here, you'll work closely with professors who introduce you to real-world business concepts such as economic theory, accounting, management, marketing, finance, computer application, entrepreneurship and international business. Our Interdisciplinary Business Psychology faculty - many of whom work as private consultants, counselors, or are actively engaged in business endeavors - will share their professional perspectives on current business challenges and best practices.
Business Psychology is an ideal program if you have aspirations of working in the fields of marketing, advertising, or human resources. But whether you're interested in starting your own business, building a career in a large corporation, conducting overseas research, or earning an M.B.A. or a degree in law, Business Psychology will provide you with the background and experience to help you reach your goals.
"You can apply psychology concepts to a number of business fields, particularly marketing and advertising. In those careers, your goal is to persuade people to consider your product or service. Well, to help you persuade them, you really need understand what motivates them and how to communicate with them on their level. A background in Psychology is extremely valuable in those professions."
