Here, You Can Even Create Your Own Major
The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) offers more than 30 different academic majors, and 30 minors. But what happens if your interests span several academic areas? Or maybe you want to focus in an area where UMF does not happen to offer a formal degree program?
At the University of Maine at Farmington, you can create your own interdisciplinary major - an innovative concept that's unheard of at most colleges. It's something we call an Individualized Studies major.
Individualized Major: Choosing The Path Not Taken
Here, you can combine interdisciplinary academic disciplines and areas to form a "unique-as-you-are" major. For years, students at UMF have chosen to take that path less taken. After all, bold individualism is a character trait we embrace here!
Students have tailored their own interdisciplinary majors in all sorts of creative ways. The possibilities are as wide and varied as your curiosity and imagination:
Of Course We Will Help You Do This
Although you'll be given the opportunity to trailblaze your own path, you won't be left on your own without a compass. You'll work closely with your academic advisor and others who will help you unleash your academic passions and guide you toward your academic and career goals.
They will help make your chosen path as exciting and interesting and focused as it can possibly be. They'll challenge you to dare to dream, to take your talents as far as your imagination will allow.
