Bachelor of Arts: Psychology

The Psychology major at Farmington is a flexible program that provides a strong foundation in psychology while encouraging you to choose classes that pique your curiosity and target your own individual interests.

Here, you will work with your Psychology faculty to select classes tailor courses that allow you to explore the newest ideas in psychology -- ideas that challenge common-sense knowledge and that apply psychology to the helping professions. At Farmington, challenging courses (recommended by the American Psychological Association), a research lab dedicated solely to Psychology, supportive faculty, and a Psychology computer lab allow you to collaborate with your professors on a variety of research projects -- theirs and yours.

A degree in Psychology can lead to a variety of career paths: business, education, social service professions, research and academia, and more. Because most mental health professionals require at least a Master's degree to become licensed or certified the Psychology program at Farmington is also designed to help you pursue an advanced degree.

Psychology students at Farmington also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with their Psychology faculty and fellow students in designing and conducting research and presenting their findings at state, regional, and national conferences.

Internships are a vital component of a Farmington education, and psychology majors regularly intern in courtrooms, nursing homes, correctional facilities, hospitals, schools, and the other human service areas. You can also join in the Psychological Wednesday Society (a student organization that explores further the reaches of psychology) or join Farmington's Psi Chi chapter, a national psychology honor society.

"I think a strength of the Psychology program at Farmington is the professors -- definitely. You can walk into anyone's office and everyone in the department is so accepting and willing to chat. And so eager to help you out."
