Bachelor of Science: Rehabilitation Services

In the University of Maine at Farmington Farmington's Rehabilitation Services program, you'll learn to work with individuals and groups across a wide range of ages, conditions and backgrounds.

You will explore the worlds of many populations including people with mental illness, substance abuse and addiction, physical limitations, behavioral problems, traumatic backgrounds, developmental disabilities, and more.

Hands-on learning is a Farmington hallmark and as a Rehabilitation Services major your practicum and internship will allow you to examine areas such as occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, counseling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, psychosocial rehabilitation, mental health, assistive technology, and animal-assisted therapy.

You will also have opportunities to participate in internships, in-state and out-of-state field trips, professional conferences, volunteer projects, undergraduate research and much more.

You will also work very closely with your professors, many of whom will become valued mentors.

Faculty in our Rehabilitation Services program work closely with their students to ensure a coordinated plan that matches their career goals, interests and talents.

Graduates of Farmington's Rehabilitation Services program often go on to careers in areas such as: occupational therapy, addiction counseling, social work, human services case worker, mental health practitioner, community support services, vocational rehabilitation counseling, employment services, family services and more. And many have attended some of the finest graduate school programs in the nation.

"I'm in the UMF Rehab Club, a student organization closely linked to the Rehabilitation Services major. We do a lot of things out in the community and we put on the annual Rehabilitation Awareness Day -- a big fair that gives everyone more knowledge about the field of Rehab. Our club also does a lot to raise awareness on campus, and we raise money for different events and help families in need. It's a lot of fun and I get a lot out of that."
