The University of Maine at Farmington Rehabilitation Administration program combines the strengths of two outstanding Farmington degree programs: Rehabilitation Services Business Economics. The result is an innovative and highly marketable program that blends the principles of business administration with the sensitivity, practicality and societal implications of serving those with disabilities.

As a Rehabilitation Administration major at Farmington, you will learn the skills necessary to ensure that rehabilitation programs serve people with disabilities in the most efficient and effective ways possible. You'll learn to become a leader who can build cooperative relationships and marshal the resources necessary to lead and manage growing agencies.

For instance, in this program you will learn how to write funding grants, gaining a working knowledge of the components of a grant proposal including a project abstract, needs assessment, a program narrative with project goals, program evaluation, budget narrative and budget.

Professionals in the Rehabilitation Administration field must be sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities and have knowledge of rehabilitation, management and legislation. Here, you will learn to understand government and how it works. You'll discover how to make effective use of public and private financial resources, and develop the knowledge and commitment to provide and advocate for quality services and supervision.

Hands-on learning is a Farmington hallmark and as a Rehabilitation Administration major you will have opportunities for off-campus internships, in-state and out-of-state field trips, participation at professional conferences, working with people with disabilities, volunteer projects, undergraduate research and much more. You will also work very closely with your professors, many of whom will become valued mentors.

Right now, all areas in the growing health and human services fields are seeking professionals who can do grantwriting, planning, programming, budgeting, operations and management, supervision and human resource development, information management, reporting, program evaluation, research, public relations and much more.

"In Karen Barrett's Disabilities class I learned a lot about limitations and it helps you deal with people that have disabilities. One of the really eye-opening moments was learning what it was like - first-hand - to live in a wheelchair. That assignment was not only a great classroom lesson, but a life-lesson as well. Very memorable."
