In the fall of 2001, UMaine Farmington launched an innovative campus-wide computer program designed to integrate wireless technology into the learning process. Code-named 'UMF EXCEL' ( EXcellence through Connected and Engaged Learning) the project ensures that technology is used to help students and faculty accomplish more together, while preserving the close person-to-person interaction that makes UMF a wonderful place to learn.

In the past three years, the EXCEL project has focused on integrating wireless technology across campus. Today, 100% of freshmen at UMF will have a reason to use wireless laptops — as the easiest, most convenient way to access the online component of their classes as well as in their daily routine at UMF. Students and faculty alike continue to discover exciting new ways to use wireless technology in their course work and outside the walls of the classroom.
