The Arts at Farmington
Creativity is at the core of ALL our programs in The Arts. And creativity simply cannot be learned in a lecture hall environment. It must be experienced, hands-on, guided by talented, seasoned artists and innovators who know how to help students find and develop their own creative voice. At Farmington we challenge students to look beyond the traditional categories of art, music, theater and creative writing as they engage with the changing role of The Arts in the 21st Century. Here, students create guerrilla art and performance art to explore political and social ideas; compose music for electric guitar, laptop, and string quartet; write and direct their own provocative plays; and give public readings of their own poetry and fiction. Farmington students create work that cuts across cultural boundaries and academic areas. They open a gallery in Second Life; improvise work for instrumentalists, dancers and actors; create animations about the economy; spring a theatrical "happening" on campus; and collaborate with other musicians, artists and actors to create a short film.
